Sony XP Home notebook is being difficult, won't peer connect to Win 2000 desktop.

1. DSL Router works fine
2. Sony notebook has IP address - 192.168.1.xxx
3. Internet works fine.
4. Ran the Network Setup Wizard
5. PC connects to Network router, same as Win 200 PC
6. Workgroup is Workgroup
7. Error: Workgroup is not accessible, contact administrator for access permissions.
8. I just installed other software yesterday, so what is the goofy problem?

Thanks, Dave Y

daveoasis,

Try checking in control panrl>network>configruation for components installed. Look for "File & printer sharing for MS Networks", MS Family Logon, & Client for MS Networks. Add if not present.
Check the Access Control Tab for correct type of access.

Depending on your OS version: Flush/reset the DNS,&/or Repair the connection.

Also, insure that "Net BIOS" is enabled. Could be "Net BIOS over TCP/IP".

Hope you can clear this up.

rvnguy - Sorry, I forgot firewall function: IP range in ZoneAlarm. I created a range of acceptable 192.168.0.1 to 192.168.0.255 IP's. Now it works fine.

Thank you.
