XP HOME INSTALL ERRORS

Hello,

I am trying to install Windows XP Home edition on to my pc. I have tried many different times to do this and after so long i receive the following error.

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage.

Few info bits about what to try.

Technical information:

I have tried several times to install and it stops and displays this message when it is copying the installation files at 18% on the Drivers.cab file.

Is there any way to install this as its on a fresh formatted drive.

Remove any USB devices until after installation.

Turn off any Bios virus scanner.

Upgrade the Computer BIOS.

Before you start the setup process, obtain and install the latest basic input output system (BIOS) upgrade for your computer from the computer manufacturer. If you update the BIOS after you upgrade the computer, you may have to reinstall Windows XP to take advantage of features such as Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) support in the BIOS. If possible, update the firmware in all devices before you start the upgrade.

My best educated guess would be faulty memory. Run a diagnostic on your ram with either of the following utilities:

http://www.memtest86.com

http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp

I prefer the microsoft one. If that's the one you use, press T after the utility starts in order to run the advanced tests. Let it run for 2 passes, and if you have any errors, then you know what your problem is.

My own guess is a BIOS issue.
See if there is an XP compliant BIOS upgrade for the computer.
