Hello. When I boot normally to XP I just get a black screen with a white pointer. When I boot in safe mode I get the same thing only I can see where it says "Safe Mode" in all 4 corners and Windows XP Build 2600 in lettering at the top, but I can't see the desktop or the taskbar.

Any suggestions are welcome.

Have found with most windows OS's that an inplace install/repair of a seriously corrupted system will not fix the problem. The problem is more that not registry based and as the upgrade copies most settings, this will not fix the problem.

Always a last resort, but a clean install is best at getting rid of most crap that has accumilated on your system. Basic reason why I have a 4Gb system partition which I can wipe without loss of saved data.
