xp hangs on file list, save, drag and IE history 1

Interesting bug in XP. Recently the following symptoms occur:

Word 02 stops responding on clicking file open and file save icons, yet the same icons in Access and Excel work fine. -- .docs still can be opened from history and explorer.

Outlook stops responding on clicking the attachment icon.

CPU usage goes to 100% on using Installshield (idriver.exe)

Occasional dragging of desktop icons hangs with "drag not responding error"

IE hangs on using the IE address history pull down list.

so...

Seemed it was a file handler dll or a video driver problem, so ...

I have registry deleted and reinstalled the Raedon video drivers.
I have reinstalled Office 2002 (save and open icons work in Acess and Excel but not Word)
I have changed from a USB to Serial mouse
Nothing found in the MS knowledgebase....
There are no network or mapped drives...
No viruses
I have updated all SP's for office and XP
I have disabled virus monitoring.


Any suggestions?

What handler would hang on Word file open and save icons, IE history list, desktop Drag, and outlook attach file icon??? corrupted?

If possible, be patient until next week's re-release of MS06-015. It sounds like you might be experiencing this:

Yes, seems to fit. MS made it a little difficult to find with no applicable keywords in the title. Appreciate the help.
