What version of the NetWare Client are you using and have you installed it with NDPS Support?

"It's true, its damn true!"

I am currently running netware client 4.83sp1 it did not seem to have an option to configure Ndps.

any suggestion

Thanks in Advance

You've got to get logged into NDS before you can install a printer. If you don't see a tree, you're not logged in. Can you see the network at all? Do you have a drive Z: mapping to sys:public\?

get it ipp enabled - works so much better

4.83 sp1 is far too old for xp - get it up to 4.9 sp2 with updated bits

You have to have the NDPS agent installed (or the iPrint client).. For the NDPS agent, it's part of the client install and there is nothing else you configure on the workstation. Just do a custom install and select NDPS (Novell Distributed Print Services).. iPrint client is a separate but very light install..

Here are my basic network notes on troubleshooting PC's with no printers fwiw:
-----------------
No printers?

Go down this list.

1. If new machine, did NDPS get installed with the Novell client? Is the client an appropriate version for OS?

2. If ans to #1 is YES, look for a file named DPRPMLOG.TXT which is located in
C:\WINNT This is a log file that NDPS makes when it installs (or fails to) printers on your local machine. The error codes are pretty self explanatory for the most part.

3. If NDPS is installed and and the DPRPMLOG file shows no driver for your printer, you need to add an OS-specific driver for that printer in iManager and then associate that driver with that printer object - also in iManager. It's not enough to just have a driver in inventory.. you have to tell NDPS which driver goes with which printer on which operating system.

Kaddett, I'm disturbed by your note that you are MANUALLY trying to find the printers.. You're doing it the hard way. Use the power of NDS to deploy the printers automatically.

There is nothing to configure on the workstation for NDPS..
The agent is either installed or it isn't.

In my opinion, #3 on itsmyfaults list is the big one.. But I have to add a little.

3A)Broker needs driver for the OS you are using (or all OS's)
3B)Printer needs driver selected for the proper OS. If 3A is not complete, you can't do 3B.
3C) Set the container, group, or user(egads!) to push out the printer automatically. Don't do it manually because it totally defeats the purpose. if 3A and 3B are not completed, 3C won't work.
