hello

I want to build a pc with xp pro but I want two processors.
these will be p3500 with 1.5gb of memeory with a 9600 graphics card .... does xp support dual processors and also does anyone have any good recomendations on where to get the motherboard from

XP Pro does support multiple processors, as does 2K Pro and NT 4 Workstation, XP home doesn't.

You will need a P3 dual processor or dual Athlon MP board or P4 Xeon as the ordinary P4 doesn't support multiple
physical CPU's; the hyperthreading technology available on the higher P4 models is nowhere near the performance of a true dual processor smp system.
I would when specifying the processors state that they are for use in an smp system and so if they don't work together, you can take them back, in fact try and buy the board from the same place.

Intel processors work in an SMP configuration quite well, but you'd get better results from CPUs designed for this - such as the AMD Athlon MP or Opteron and Intel Pentium Xeon ranges - although the cost is steep. Dual Processor boards are very expensive too, considering you wouldn't get much of a performance advantage - unless you're running a Database or Terminal Server. A single Hyperthreading P4 would not seem slower by comparison for Games, Business Apps, Internet, etc.

Hope this helps
