However that being said, problems during setup are normally down to two things. Corrupt Media, or faulty hardware, as you were experiencing problems before hand, it would not be unreasonable to think hardware is the problem.
As a first stop I would Test your memory using
and your harddrive using the free tool available on your HD manufacturers website.
