I have a windows 2000 network and we have just started upgrading PC's to XP pro. sadly, it would appear that if I logon to a PC as local admin, I can still access all the information on the network without it asking for a password for any of it. As I have to set up everyone with local admin rights (long story but it is necessary), this will give them admin rights to the whole of the network which is obviously not good. Any ideas?..Incidetally if i try to look in the AD, it doesn't let me so at least that is working!!!!

cheers

On the other machines with shares, just set up the permissions on the shares, so only certain usernames can access them, see if that works.

Make sure that the Administrator password on your XP workstations is NOT the same as the Administrator password that is used on your Windows 2000 servers. If it is the same it skips the step where it prompts you for a password because they match.
