Reading dinnah1130's problem with their 'hiv' file and seeing their comment about 'boot' discs, it occurred to me to post the following information should anyone require it.

In theory at least, like many modern PC's mine should boot from disc when doing an installation. Having said that, I think many of us are aware that there are times when that either does not happen as it should, or some other issue arises that could be overcome with boot discs.

I came across a boot disc compiler for Windows XP Pro at the Microsoft Site which some may find of use.

It does require '6' floppies.

URL:-
The file name is:-WinXP_EN_PRO_BF.EXE

Thanks for the good information, though I never looked for anything like this myself, it's still good to know there is a solution...

Though I can say most times that people can't boot from the CD-ROM is because the BIOS is not set to boot from a CD-ROM and of course, they then fail...

Cheers!

Thats actually a great piece of information. I have come across quite afew users who had a similar problem.

Imagine if every Thursday your shoes exploded if you tied them the usual way. This happens to us all the time with computers, and nobody thinks of complaining.

I have a question, it may be simple to you all and I apologize but..I forgot my ADMINISTRATOR password for win xp pro and I don't have the installation cd-rom, so I went and use the 6 floppy boot disc download, but what do I do? I am very clueless right now, I don't know how to boot with the command prompt? Can N E one help?

intrigue988,

Using the Boot Disks may not help you too much.

After you create all six disks, insert the first disk in the floppy disk drive, and then restart the computer. Note that the computer must be configured to boot from the floppy disk drive. In some cases, you may need to modify your computer's BIOS settings to do this.

The Setup process starts. Insert the other floppy disks as you are prompted to do so. **********Note that you will need to use the Windows XP CD-ROM to finish Setup*********.

This article is not as hopeful as it sounds but have a read anyway.

There are many sites that can help you further with lost or forgotten passwords (Google for instance) but this site for security and ethical reasons does not support that policy. Sorry about that, but if we can help in any other way please try us again.
