We have some new laptops with XP home edition on them. We cannot get them to connect to our exchange server using outlook 2000. What are we doing wrong? Any ideas? Mooo...
rjkrash, thanks for the reponse, what do you base it on though? The Microsoft site doesn't tell me this. It seems drastic to me. Especially since I can see and use everything else on the network, I just can't get to the exchange server. More details please...
I may be out of my element here,(-: I assume that to use exchange/outlook you must be a participant/user in an NT or 2K domain. If that is not a true statement then I am talking through my hat. :-V
WinXP HE users can use/see shared resources on a Domain but cannot logon to a domain. This is a fundamental difference between XP Pro and XP HE. You might want to take a look at this link:
You might try posting in the Exchange forum on this site to get further clarification. The two rules for success are:

Well, I continue to find information that tells me that XP HE will not recognize my exchange server. However, one of my co-workers has now accomplished the feat of getting two systems, just like mine, to see and access our exchange server using outlook2000. But he doesn't have any idea what he did. And I can't see anything different. I still have three systems that will not work. Mooo...
try this, Make sure that the usernames and passwords are identical on the laptops as on the server. I mean IDENTICAL. The two rules for success are:
1. Never tell them everything you know.
I may have led you down a wrong path guessing you had to be a domain memeber to use excahnge. The evidence of your co-worker indicates that. Sorry:~/ , blame it on me to your boss. The two rules for success are:
1. Never tell them everything you know.
I use Outlook2002(XP) and in that case the issue of Corporate Workgroup vs. Internet Mail Only doesn't apply. You just pick Excahnge server when you set up a new account.
If my "help" from the first post was wrong and the follow on with the links help to fix the problem at least you and I learned something new today making us both more valuable.
BTW the reason I said "If the laptops were not on the network when you installed Outlook they may have been configured wrong." is because Outlook2K/MS tries to "help" by sensing the existance of a Corporate Workgroup and if it doesn't find one it installs as Internet Mail Only. Some help!
Hope this works out. :-D The two rules for success are:
