Dear All,

I've been asked to set-up a PC with XP Home on it. I've installed WinSock Proxy client and was just installing Outlook 2000 when the installer asked for XP SP1 CD which, naturally, I don't have. The PC is a pre-installed OEM version.

I also cannot log on to the NT4.0 SBS server that is the PDC for this office. I'm sure I need to faff about with the settings somewhere, but quite where I have no idea!

Can anyone help?

Sorry, forgot to mention that I'm downloading SP1a at present.

My question, which I completely failed to ask, is after installing SP1a am I still going to get the installer whinging about SP1 - I do not appear to have had a copy of Windows supplied with the PC.

I still look back on DOS 6.2 with something approaching affection.

Your (polite) comments are appreciated!

Regards,

Andy

Once you install SP1a it should not prompt you again.

XP Home will not join Domains. While there are some tricks that can be played, the best solution for you both short-term and long-term would be to install XP Pro Upgrade, and re-apply SP1.

Thanks for your reply.

XP SP1a: glad to hear that. After it had downloaded I applied it and re-ran Outlook install. It seems to be happy enough.

NT Domain: I had a horrible feeling you would say that! Oh joy, another trip to the shops.

Thanks for that link. That may well be the answer to my problems!
