When I run netstat -a 192.168.1.1 from a XP Pro with the same ip, I get a incorrect machine name.

When I run netstat -a 192.168.1.1 from a 98 with another ip I get the correct machine name.

Both on same lan with same network settings.

So does XP Pro report incorrect names for the local machine? But It reports correct names for other machines. Ideas?

Thanks,

I would look at your lmhosts or hosts file. It sounds like the Netbios name resolution is not working correctly.

There is no lmhost or host file, this is on a lan. All 9x machines report correct names to ip. XP pro will not report the correct machine name of another ip (not its own).

Infact it reports other ip's as it machine name rather than what they really are. A+ N+ Sec+ SME/Sec+
