Hi
The machines on my network are running Windows 2000 and Office XP Professional. I have one machine that currently shows all excel files in Windows Explorer as XLS Files under the Type column when the view is set to details. However every other machine on my network shows the file type as "Microsoft Excel Worksheet". The result when the user trys to open an excel file is the message "File format not valid". I have been able to save some of the spreadsheets but have not been able to determine what the user has done. Naturally, the user claims innocence and says that someone must have used her computer overnight.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance

treestump,

I try not to do this, but suggest you look at another site's forum. Found a hit on your stated problem via Google:

Excel error: File format not valid

At first glance it sounds like the File Association is what has been changed. The above listing may help you clear your problem.

Hope this helps.
