Hello respected peers,
I have a Pioneer DVD-RW 105 drive and Plextor px5224a CD-RW drive giving me the "x:"/ is not accessible Incorrect Function errors in Windows XP Pro. The drives work in safe mode to read CD-r and CD-rom drives. The DVD drive, in safe mode, will read files of DVD-Rs as well. I can boot from the WinXP CD but I can't view it from Hard drive boot of Windows. All of this happened after I did a major Spyware removal. ( i have already tried "reversing" the removed spyware items but that doesn't work.) I even used a tip from this site to use "CDgone" to restore missing CD drive and reinstall Nero6. Does anyone know how to remedy this problem?

It was recommended to me that I change drivers for the optical drives. I have tried uninstalling them as well to let Windows XP Pro reinstall appropriate drivers but it doesn't work. In this last attempt, I actually saw the CD contents for 2 seconds and then the window was blank. CD-Roms appear as blank CDs. In Icon mode, My Computer Folder does not give an appropriate Icon for WinXP Pro CD or any CD-Rom.

More perplexing is that Retail Audio CDs will list in MusicMatch but when I ask the same program to rip the CD it asks me for an Audio CD in the drive first. I haven't seen this before but I hope someone out there has.

Thanks in advance.

Anything here apply?

324129 - HOW TO: Troubleshoot Issues That Occur When You Write Data to a CD-R or CD-RW Optical Disc in Windows XP

There would be two ways of reversing your Spyware removal programs. Have you tried both ways. That is either System Restore or the Backup and Restore procedure of the Spyware removal program.

Linney, I did read the "How to:" you listed. The drives do display recorder tabs in properties and the drives are listed in Windows XP correctly.

System restore didn't work. I went back days, weeks and then a month and still no luck. The Spyware, Adaware and Spy Anihalator pro, did not resolve the issue after reversing what I had done.

When I get back home from work, I'll try the microsoft how to you recommended to see if I missed something before.
Thanks

If you installed iTunes, go the Applie forums for iTunes and search on "GEAR" driver issues with XP.

bcastner, I'll look for answers in that apple forum, but I don't have iTunes. Still, doesn't mean I won't find help, right?

I just keep wondering why WindowsXP in safe mode will read the info on my CD-Rs and DVD-Rs when booting normal to Windows XP Pro does not let me read the media on the same drives?
