I have a couple of questions regarding WSUS.

First, does it HAVE to be installed on a Server OS? From reading Microsoft docs it just sounds like it has to be on W2K or newer, not necessarily an actual "Server" version...

Second, whether I try to install WSUS on EITHER XP Pro or Windows 2000 Server, I still get the same error message saying something about "The dynamic link library mscoree.dll could not be found in the specified path C:\;C;\WINNT;C:\..... (and so on...)". Any ideas as to why I would get this???

Thanks,

Hi there.

Have you checked out the various white papers?

I believe it only runs on Windows 2000 or 2003 Server Windows Server 2003 and there are also prerequisites that must be installed:

Prerequisites
• You must install the Background Intelligent Transfer Services (BITS) 2.0 before installing the WSUS server. BITS 2.0 lets you download updates in the background using available network bandwidth.

• MSDE2000a, WMSDE, or SQL Server 2000 with SP3 is required. See the Deployment Guide for complete installation instructions. WMSDE is for Windows Server 2003 only and is included in the WSUS download.

I hope this helps.
