Hello,
I'm running windows 2000 with IIS5 and I have a problem. I have an asp site that I do local testing with and it's been running fine. The same site that I have published on the web. Today when I hit search database, the site acts weird. I see this url in the window

"
I don't know where it's coming from, it's not in any of the code for my site. I also get this error message:

Microsoft VBScript runtime error '800a000d'

Type mismatch: 'CLng'

/bin/n_libBase64.asp, line 161

Does anyone have any ideas as to what this means and how I can correct it? Any help is very much appreciated.

Thanks,

A.Davis

From here it looks like ur query string maybe too long. Can you provide more details?

Hello,
The site is a local site. The initial page url is aaron is the name of my computer, aas3 is the name of the folder where the site resides. The home page loads up fine. When I do a search, it should go to a url like below.

Instead, my local site isin't displayed in the window anymore. In the window an error message is displayed :

Microsoft VBScript runtime error '800a000d'

Type mismatch: 'CLng'

/bin/n_libBase64.asp, line 161

This is in the address bar
Notice the first part of the URL.
No where in the code is stated. The beginning of it should state at least. I don't know what to think. I appreciate any advice.

Thanks,

A.Davis

I believ u have a problem with one of your variables with wich u used the function CLng. The variable must be a number and the value must be a between -2147483648 and 2147483647. I hope that tomorow I'll still be alive and kicking.

Open IIS, check the default website set up. Open Properties, pay attention to the (Advanced) in the Web Site tab and Home Directory tab. Let us know what you found. It's not about whether you can do it or not, it's about HOW

Hello,
I fixed IT! It seems that some how a program was downloaded called comonname. It resets the internet settings to redirect to for local sites. Weird. I removed the program and everything is back to normal. What do you think about that?

A.Davis

This does not look good.. what kind of a program was it? Where was it d/l-ed from?.. what was the purpose of it. You should check to see if it opened up any backdoors on ur server. OR.. u could goto MS and download their lockdown tool but BEWARE.. it does weird stuff sometimes(like getting ur IIS to refuse any connections, hence, not serving webpages). But then again u can always undo..

Be sure to check ur IIS settings.. ntsf permissions.. etc.

Good luck.

T

Hi JacK[afro][afro1]:)

BTW.. the error msg you were getting with the CLNG thing was not coming from ur server.. it was coming from another server so you don't have to worry about it.

Hello,
I don't know what kind of program it is. It seems it's only function is to rederect to commonname.com. I first found it when I went to Internet Options/ Advanced. There was a new section named CN it had several options which included enable commonname, some thing about localhost and two others. I did a search for commonname and found a folder named commonname under program files. I ran my uninstaller and deleted it.

Aaron

Good to know it is fixed.

A. Aaron: You may want to tight your security setup in your server, both web and ftp...

B. T: You may want to liminate the use of your lovely smiling faces....

I checked out the commonname website and read about what that company does. Here's what I found:

"CommonName Limited was founded in early 2000 with the vision of making the Internet easier to use and more beneficial for both business and personal users. We provide a suite of direct navigation, search and other Internet products.

Our core product is the CommonName. Our proprietary technology enables easy to remember words (or "CommonNames") to be used for Internet navigation instead of typing in URLs. They can also be used as email addresses. By promoting the use of plain language words, without having to resort to technical idioms such as .com, CommonName greatly improves the usability of the Internet. We also provide businesses with a strong branding solution by allowing them to unify their online and offline brands. "

Seems like they company thinks the preceeding http/ is a little to difficult for our simple minds to remember or something. :)

I'm guessing someone accidently pressed a few "OKs" and installed some kinda advertising software for you (similar to those annoying GATOR ones). Just to be safe, remember to monitor your internet traffic and make sure that there arn't any programs(that u're not aware of) is accessing the internet.

Good Luck!

JACK: Hehe.. all of the faces look so good.. = )

Hehe.. getting towards the weekend.. i'm goin into the fish shop tomorrow to work with fishes rather than servers haha..

That reminds me.. i read some article bout mercury levels.. so here's something for everyone:

FYI: Avoid shark, swordfish, king mackerel and tilefish (eat other fishes). The mercury levels in these fishies are too high .. especially for women that are/would be pregnant. = )

Take care everyone.
