I can read files from the A-drive but when I try to write to it I get the message that it is write protected. It is not the diskette that is the problem because I can read and write to it on another machine.

How to I gain back the ablity to write to the A-drive?

I'm using windows 98. The machine was recently serviced and I the probelm may be linked to that.

Thanks,

Michel

First check in the BIOS - there maybe an advanced setting enabled, which allows READ ONLY for the floppy drive. Then carefully check the ribbon cable, connectors etc., to this drive. Try substituting ribbon cable for a known good one.

I would say that the most likly cause is the drive itself it has 2 switches whch detect if the disk is write protected if on of these is faulty it will produced this problem. try changing it for a known good one

Thank you both. I will check this out on my mother's computer.

Cheers,

Michel
