Hello to all:
My home wireless network (1 desktop w/ XP Home, SP2 & 1 laptop w/ XP Pro, SP2, laptop has an intergrated wireless card - I have a DLink Wireless Router & DSL) is set up with WEP 64-bit encryption. I understand that WEP isn't as secure as WAP (keeping in mind that not all devices are compatible with WAP, although WAP is more secure/harder to crack) but I've recently attempted to take my laptop into an environment where the wireless network is encrypted with WAP. My laptop can see the WAP network and asks me for the appropriate WAP key...I give it said key and it says that it's connected, only to be told that my wireless connection is limited (ie, no IP address, subnet mask, def gateway, etc...no real connection) or that it's attempting to assign it an IP address (never happens). I've recently updated the wireless card's device drivers but still cannot connect. I have my wireless card set to DHCP (as I understand that the router on the WAP wireless network requires this). I've gone to Microsoft's website for info (in addition to a couple of other sites) but I still can't connect. Of course, there's a possibility that there may be an issue with the wireless network itself but I'm unaware of any other unsuccessful attempts but other users to connect.
Am I missing something? ANY additonal information/correction would be greatfully apprecitated
