Hi all,

Ok here is a summary of the initial problem:

A Sage installation was attempted on the server. This halted and fell over. Once the server had been restarted after this failure it is no longer sharing data/printers or serving AD requests. Essentially I found the problem to be because the Workstation Service has not started and I can't manually start it. It reports an error stating there is a problem with the module.

What have I tried to overcome this problem?

1) Service Pack 1 for Windows 2003 Server - this install fails.
2) SBS Service Pack 1 - this install fails.
3) Windows Update - it downloads but does not install anything.

They both (1 and 2) fail reporting module errors also.

What do I want to achieve?

Ideally I want to get the Workstation service started as I think this will solve the core of my problem, any ideas on how I can get this working?

If not I would like to get the server back to its state before the Sage install this morning. What is the best way to do this? A repair of the install? Is that safe? Will I lose the domain or exchange if I did this??

Please advise!!

Thanks in advance.

You shouldn't attempt to install a service pack if the server isn't stable. Hard and fast rule.

You could restore the System State from your last backup.

I am thinking the same thing, but I don't know if the lack of services running will allow me to perform the restore.

What do you think of the repair option?
