Workstation Importation

Running NetWare 6.0

After the installation of SP4 my workstation began to import as unknown objects. The next day the objects appeared properly as workstation objects. Two day later after installing SP4 on another server the workstations that had been imported since the first SP4 install turned unknow again, and the next day were fine. Yesterday I installed SP4 on my last server, and again today i have regular workstation that were imported before the serices of SP4 installs and unknowns for all imported after the first SP4 install. Wheather they are known or unknow they automatic import places them in the proper container. Why are they unknown then known then unknown?

Each server holds a replica of your Tree. Update one server, takes a while for it's replica to sync up with the others. Update another server, takes a while for it's replica...etc., etc.

If you don't like to wait for the sync, you can force it with dstrace. from any server console, type:
set dstrace=*f
set dstrace=*h
...and the sync will happen quickly (but not necessarily instantly!)

To expand on what Lawnboy said... If your objects keep going from good object to question marks and back and forth, you are probably having a problem with one of your replicas.

Run a health check and troubleshoot any errors you come up with.
