Hello all
I have a laptop with win2k pro installed, it is at sp 4.
The machine shows up on my network browse list but I cannot access it from network neighbourhood (gives me a network path was not found error). When I try and ping the station by name the address gets resolved to the right IP but the 4 replies time out.
If I try to ping the machine name from the actual machine itself I get the 4 replies, I can also see the machines shares in network neighbourhood if I click on the machine name from the actual machine itself.
The laptop authenticates to the domain fine, and has no trouble running any of the server apps on the network it just wont let anyone else know its out there.

Thanks in advance for any help offered.

This most assuredly is a firewall issue.
. check the settings for any installed firewall;
. check for "hidden" firewalls in an antivirus product. PC-Illan is notorious for this behavior.
. check for a VPN client. CISCO VPN client is notorious for this behavior.

Thanks for the quick reply. Reinstalling the Cisco client resolved the network problem !!
