Working with Layers

Hi there,
Don't suppose anyone can tell me what the correct way to work with layers is. For example, if I create a layer somewhere on a page (maybe in a table), why is it, that when I view it in the browser it is in a different place. Is it something to do with the page size settings. Can someone please help.
And.............I am trying to create an image rollover effect by using the show hide layers. Basically, I would like the mouse to roll over an image on one part of the page, which will make an image or text (on a layer) on another part of the page display. And then when the mouse rolls off, I would like the layer to disappear. I can get the layer to show using the 'On Mouse Over - Show hide layer' in behaviours, but I can't get the layer to go when the mouse rolls off. If I try to edit the script, or enter the command twice in behaviours, everything gets a bit confused which ends in no rollover effect whatsoever.
Shame eh, anyone got any thoughts. I would be most grateful. :-Q

Can't put layer in a table. Might look like its in a table, but it ain't. Check the positioning of the layer using clciking windows,t hen properties then click ont he layer. change the x,y,height and width components to move it around. Can use % too.

Layers do different things re: positioning in Netscape and windows. not good things I'm afraid especially when using % so check thing out in both.

For a show hide layers rollover need to:-

(1) Make layer invisible to start with.
(2) Choose your rollover button. Add a "show layer" behaviour" on rollover
(3) Add a "hide layer" behaviour on mouse out.

If it stuffs up, delete ALL the behaviours and start again. Sometimes MM gets confused witht this one I've noticed.
