We have a client who we are moving from a workgroup setup to a domain setup in SBS 2003. I was able to set up DHCP, DNS, WINS fine and all clients are getting proper IP assignments from the server. The problem is when I try to join a computer to the domain. I get an error that it can't find a DC. However, when I reboot, there is an option to log onto the old workgroup name or local pc. The computer does show up in AD users and computers, but if you browse the network, you can only access workgroup shares. Has anyone run into anything like this. There is only 1 DC and it does show up under DC's in the domain. One thing I noticed that may/may not have to do w/ this is that the servername is the same as the domain name (ie - hillcountry.hillcountry.local) Can anyone help? Any suggesitons will be appreciated.

Are these Win98/95/NT machines? If so, you will need to load the ActiveDirectory Client on each. Its found in one of the folders on one of the SBS install CDs. I don't have my media in front of me to browse though.

If these are Win2k/XP machines, make sure the network settings are set to log on to a Domain rather than a workgroup. You can run through the Network Identification wizard on the Network Properties page to do so. This should set you up.
