Word is opening to a specific document each time and not opening to a blank document.

We have done the following:
1. deleted the normal.dot (all of them found)
2. checked Tools > Options > File Locations, its set to the STARTUP folder.
3. Checked the STARTUP folder and it is empty
4. We deleted the document that Word opens up by default and still, it opens to that specific document and not a blank one.

I know this has to be either an obscure setting or could it be virus damage?

Any suggestions on how to correct this issue?

Thanks!

OOPS.. sorry for the lack of a proper title... our proxy went down and I saved the text before I tried to post this.

It nuked, when I came back I pasted the text into the body and forgot about the title.

My Sincere apologies...

Have you checked in Word: Tools-Options, File locations tab, for the location of your normal.dot? Maybe it's on a server and not your hard drive and you're not deleting it after all?

Are you sure you're viewing ALL files, including hidden and system files?

If not, change the setting under windows explorer, Tools-Folder options, View tab, and look for normal.dot again, and check startup folder again.

Way cool stuff:

Yes, see option 2, basically it covered the range... anyway, that was yesterday... it went unanswered by the time I left for the day... not sure what the results were on it... but thanks...

YOu've been quiet.... on vacation? I thought maybe you were no longer with OfficeExperts...

Nice to see ya

Have you tried checking where the file is actually coming from (i.e. File->Properties, General tab - Location)?

Close Word, delete or move the document from that location and Re-open Word.

Good Luck! ;-)

Peace! [peace]

Lady: I sold the office experts but haven't changed my signature yet. You'll note that the link doesn't even work, but the "site proper" is still there. On to bigger and better...

Yup, Mike, see #4 :)

I have no more information at this time, if there is still a problem on Monday morning I'll come back and let ya know, but for now, we can close this thread.

And good luck in your future endeavors.. was not aware, "OfficeExperts" was 'yours' :)

Anyway, thanks for posting but I really think this can be closed....

I had this once and it turned out to be the normal.dot
template in one of the user's profiles. I just deleted it
and it recreates in proper fashion when you reboot.
