When I try to "save as" a file in Microsoft Word XP, I can save it in a folder selected from History and I can also save it in My Documents, but I cannot save it in any other folder I try to select.

Two questions:

A. What is causing this?

and

2. How do I stop it?

Is this just a stand alone desktop or part of a network? Assuming it is the former, I would guess that you are logged into Windows as a User without the permissions to access the other folders except in your own profile (My Documents).

Log in as the Administrator and see what permissions you have assigned your personal login.

It is not on a network; it is peer-to-peer only. The problem lies in saving these docs on this computer itself.

What exactly happens when you click the down arrow on the file/folder/drive dropdown? Nothing there? Can you even select another folder?

We did a "go back" to last week and that solved the problem but without the answer! I guess it is just another of those Microsoft Miracles!

fumei and tf1, thanks for the time you gave to this question!
