I tried everything in the link above.

All of a sudden, I am getting the following prompt when I try to exit from Word:

"Changes have been made that affect the global template, Normal. Do you want to save these changes?"

The only I add-in I have is ScanSoft and it has never caused a problem.

I have no spyware, virii, etc.

The prompt to save normal template is not checked.

Where else should I look?

Thank you.

You have definitely checked for COM add-ins? Remember that COM add-ins do NOT show under Tools by default. You have to put it there.

Something is altering normal.dot.

Thanks, Gerry.

I have tried everything in that article (including the COM stuff).

I just posted here because I had run out of options....

Well then try removing Scansoft. Just uncheck it as an addin for testing. Again, something IS altering normal.dot.

Yes, I agree; something is altering normal.dot.

It is not ScanSoft...already tried that.

I appreciate your time.

OK, try this. Rename your existing normal.dot, and make sure you find them all. Word has some tricky weird stuff and can make different copies some times.

Start up Word again so it has to make a new normal.dot. Do you get the same thing?

Gerry

Where do I find normal.dot?

I can't find that file with either Copernic or with Explorer.

You need to have both System and Hidden files and file extensions of registered file types enabled for a search for normal.dot to work.

Has the normal.dot been user modified in any way? i.e. macro's and custom shortcut keys?

Thanks, I found all the normal.dots and deleted them.

I don't know if this will work or whether we will have to live with another Microsoft Miracle....

No.

I am not sure what you are doing in order to check if normal.dot is modified, but in any case, if you DO delete it (or rename it, which is what I actually recommended) what happens. Are you still getting this happening?

Gerry

Thanks, Gerry.

Word (as you know) creates a normal.dot each so I deleted every one of them I could find.

I restarted Word and so far so good.

I appreciate your time.

Keep us posted, because we always want to hear about things that mess up neomal.dot. So as you add things BACK into normal.dot - say that Scansoft addin - if it messes things up again, it is good to know of that.
