word shows uninstalled fonts

In Word 2002, running on Windows XP, my fonts menu shows a number of fonts that are not installed. (I'm trying to limit fonts to Type 1, and there appear to be some name conflicts with "hidden" Truetype fonts.) How do you locate and remove/disable these apparently built-in fonts?

Hello!
Have you tried deleting them from your "FONT" folder? It is located in C:\WINDOWS in XP...

They're not in c:\windows\fonts.

Font menu in Word shows 41 families. I only have 15 in the fonts folder.

hello again...
you have probably already done this as well...but here goes...
Did you check in the Fonts under the control panel? if not...try this...

To remove a font from your computer:

In Control Panel, double-click Fonts.
Click the icon for the font that you want to delete.
On the File menu, click Delete.

If this doesn't work...let me know...I will keep looking!
