Hi,
I have a laptop with Windows XP and Office 2003. I have a printer configured at my job, but at home I don't have a printer. But starting Word at home it reports message:
"The printer has not yet responded, but the Microsoft Office program may be able to proceed without printer infromation. Do you want to continue to wait for the printer?"

First it needs at least half a minute to display this message and after click on Yes button it needs at least one minute to open a one page document.

The same document at my job opens in one second.

How to turn off this "printer checking" functionality at startup of Word?

Thanks,
Grofaty

Word really needs a printer. Exactly what it does without one is a bit of a mystery. The best thing to do is install a Generic Text Only printer driver (Local Printer on LPT1, Manufacturer = Generic, Printer = Generic / Text Only). With a printer, Word should open more quickly.

Enjoy,
Tony
