Word for PC and Mac - are their conflicts?

I have MS Office for Mac 2001 running on latest mac os X via classic.

Many times when I email what I assume is an ordinary word document with .doc on the end of the attachment, PC's fail to open it. I have seen this happens in Office 2000 - receipt was a few lines of square boxes if opened in wordpad, failed to do anything in 2000 - and I'm not sure what other versions.
I email local authorities and large organisations.

Labelling it rtf helps but still causes people problems.

Any ideas?

I think this happens whatever font I use - normally Times New Roman or Verdana.

If someone sends me a Word PC doc, which I then work on and send back this happens - it feels like a conflict between PC and Mac versions of Office.

I thought the conflicts were gone years ago, and haven't heard anything since.

Perhaps it's the new versions of either PC or Mac?

I've got 4 versions of Office currently running on my PC. Be happy to test drive the Mac documents. anne@piersontech.com
