When I attempt to save an 850 pg. Word file as a PDF, the process starts, and continues for some time, but never finishes. The windows appear stating that it is scanning for tags, bookmarks, etc., but then after about 30 minutes, the process stops and when the dust settles, the Word file is just sitting there, unaffected. However, when I click Start / Documents, the PDF file exists as a shortcut, but when clicked, the little flashlight appears and it says that the file cannot be found. Strange thing is, a smaller related document converts to PDF very easily, in a matter of seconds.

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!!

How are you converting the file?

In Word, from the PDFMaker 5.0 Toolbar, I click the "Convert to PDF" icon.

Hi,
Do you have the option of using File | Print and selecting Acrobat Distiller from the Printer Name drop down box. I use it this way and don't have a problem with converting large files, although your is very big. Have you converted docs this large before?

Hi Kathy,

This worked, but the hyperlinks do not work in the document. It appears that Distiller did not scan for bookmarks or tags.

Do you have links in your documents?

Have you tried adjusting the distiller settings?
Perhaps it is set to "Press Optimized" which is superb quality. YOu could reduce to "Screen Optimized". However your Word file might be too large for your available RAM.

BTW: Are you probably a bit low on free disk space?
;-)
