Word document protected wont convert to PDF!!!!!

I have several word documents that I want to convert into PDF from word. every time I run the action it says that the document is protected! I look at the tools menu to see the words "unprotect Document" when i click it it asks for password. I have spoken to the original author who swears blind that he did not protect it. Any ideas anyone?

Kelly: Simple. Just open a blank document. Hit Insert-File and insert this "protected" document. It will become unprotected. Anne Troy
