Word document opens in design view

How do I stop a word document from opening in design view? It has some activex controls on it. I've tried to save it out of design view. I've also tried to protect it as a form but that makes it unusable. Any help would be appreciated.

Tools-Macro-Security, and set the security to Low or Medium. When you don't allow macros to run, the files open in design view. Weird, I know...
