When I try to reply to some e-mails I get this message:
"Microsoft Word is set to be your e-mail editor. However, Word is unavailable, not installed, or is not the same version as Outlook. The Outlook e-mail editor will be used instead."

I have Outllok version 2003 and Word 2002 Sp3.
When I check on Outlook to enable Word as mail editor following these steps: Tools/Options/mail format. I see as greyed out:" Use Microsoft office Word 2003 to edit E-mail messages"

Is there a way to make Outlook use 2002 or 2000 Word as mail editor?

Thanks

No, you need Word 2003 for that.

So why is my option greyed out? or how do I do to get it working then?
Do you have any suggestion?
Thanks

Microsoft will not let outlook 2003 work with word 2000, you need to install the office 2003 package to get outlook 2003 to use word 2003 at it's email editor. The option is greyed out until word 2003 is installed.

was that not obvious?

Yes, my second question was not to be asked, sorry,
my brain this morning is not working.
Isn't there any registrey hack to get around it.
I cannot imagine Microsoft forcing everyone to upgrade their office 2000 for example to the latest because the poor guy switched to Exchange 2003 and it came with with Outlook 2003!

no hacks, besides, using Word as e-mail editor is abandoned by most people anyway, it is a pain and consumes way to much mailspace.

Microsoft did not force anyone to use Outlook 2003 just because you have Exchange 2003! That is a choice you make, including the consequences, just like anything else in life.

I had the same issue - Outlook 2003 won't work with Word 2000.

So I dropped the user back to Outlook 2000 and now when he goes to check Word 2000 (the box will let him now) when he closes out of that menu and starts a new message, he gets an error that it will be reset because it can't find Word on his machine.

But he clearly has Word on his machine and it works.

I personally hate this feature, but he claims that he can't live without the realtime spell check and the thesaurus features.

Any ideas?

It may sounds silly, but if you had Office 2000, then put Outlook 2003 on top, then uninstall that, you have to re-install the FULL Office 2000, or at least a repair, so all relations are back ok.

Yeah, when I put Outlook 2000 back on, that was what I did - or thought I did.

I will see if I can go in tonight and do an explicit repair on it and see if that remedies it (perhaps it is a two stage event?).

ok they are running Office 2003 with SP1. basic edition

they have Outlook options set to use Word 2003 as the email editor (Under Tools-->Options-->Mail Format, this checkbox is marked).
However when they try to create a new email message, I get an error popup saying

"Microsoft Word is set to be your email editor. However,
Word is unavailable, not installed, or is not the same
version as Outlook. The Outlook email editor will be used
instead. An OLE registration error occured. The program is
not correctly installed. Run Setup again for the program"

The version number for both Outlook 2003 and Word 2003 are
the same, as shown in Help-->About

Microsoft Office Outlook 2003

I have uninstalled completely, reinstalled, tried a new profile on the same machine to see if it was profile related but it is not. any suggestions?
