I feel as thought this has been asked before, but here goes. I have a system running Office 2000 on Windows 98. Suddenly, the File command and all the pull-down options under it are gone from the toolbar -- that is, the Command line at the top of the screen starts with "Edit" rather than "File." I have uninstalled and re-installed, run a full virus check for macro viruses, and run the Service Pack. I have received one suggestion that there may be a Registry entry involved in this. Any advice? Thanks!

I would suggest try re-registering Word first.

First if you go to Start, Run and type
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\Winword.exe /a
it will start up Word without any of the startup options. If it works OK, Close Word, rename Normal.dot and see if the problem is fixed.

I would suggest try re-registering Word.

Go to Start, Run and type
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\Winword.exe /regserver{/b]
and see if that fixes the problem.

Please ignore the first line. Couldn't remember I had already typed it.
