Word 2003: Open dialog drop-down delay 2

Hi

One of my colleagues is using Word 2003. Everytime they use the Open dialog and click on the drop-down to view the list of drives they experience a long delay (20-30 secs), before the drives are shown.

I have seen a MS KB article (831024), which describes a similar situation where the delay is caused by Word checking shortcuts to files from UNC paths, and have tried the registry hack (HKCU\Software\MS\Office\11\Common\Open Find\DisableAutoselect=1), but it makes no difference.

MS Office 2003 is installed, and no other Office programs experience the same symptoms.

The client machine is a new XP Pro machine in a W2k3 Server single domain Active Directory network.

Does anyone have any suggestions for eliminating this delay please?

You possibly have made sure that there no disconnected drives.

Right click on MY Computer icon, click on Disconnect Network Drive... and delete any drives not valid.

Thanks very much. Two of the mapped drives were pointing to a PC that is not presently switched on - disconnecting these mapped drives resulted in instant action from Word
