Hello,

I am wondering if it's possible to have a word bolded and underlined in 2003, but have the underline not be bolded.

Thanks

Pat

Hi, Pat.

I believe this a function of the Font itself (someone can/will correct me if I am way off course).

If you use fonts like Bookman Antiqua or Century Gothic or Garamond and such, you will find that underlines are narrow when the word is bolded also.

You could give the underline a color and have appearence of being narrow.

Other than that, Arial, TNR and such are going to give you bold underlines.

xlhelp is correct - the underlines are built into the fonts. It is, however, possible, with the limitation that it can't wrap over lines, to arrange for short lengths of text in this format by using overlay fields.

Enjoy,
Tony

Thanx TonyJollans,

But, I'm not quite sure how to go about overlaying fields.

Pat

Press Ctrl+F9 to get a new field.
Between the braces, enter:
EQ \O(bold text, lots of underlined spaces)
Make 'bold text' bold
Underline 'lots of underlined spaces'

Next, go to Tools > Options > Compatibility tab
Check "Draw underline on trailing spaces"
Click OK.

Now you will have to use trial and error to get the right number of spaces. After each trial you will need to update the field - select it and press F9. Alt+F9 will toggle you between seeing the field code and the result of the overlay.

Enjoy,
Tony
