Word 2003 auto insert date not suitable

I am using MSWord in German to write texts in German. When typing a date with auto insert (auto fill?) on, I get unusable, even disturbing auto insert options. E.g. when typing "25. " on Sep 25, Word suggests "25. Sep. 06" which is not exactly what I want. More disturbing, after "25. September 2006" Word insists on inserting "2006-09-25".
Certainly I can turn off auto insert completely, but is there a way to modify the auto-insert behaviour and tell Word the date format I want to have inserted?

Thanks

On the Insert menu, point to AutoText, and then click AutoText. De-Select the Show AutoComplete suggestions check box.

Thanks, that is clear - but it turns all the AutoComplete suggestions off.

Is there a way of changing the format of a specific suggestion - e.g. dateformat, without turning everything off.

Thanks

Format > Autoformat > Options > Autoformat as you type, then go down into the "Apply as you type" section, and uncheck Date style.

Choose Insert > Date and Time. Select one of the formats shown. Click the [Default] button at the bottom.

This is for Word 2002. Other versions may be different.
