Word 2000 program not able to open in win98

I have re-installed Microsoft Office 2000 on Windows 98 SE. The reason to reinstall was to resolve this issue. When i click on .doc file or select Microsoft word from the programs menu it won't open up the application. It would just sit on the product registration box (dialog box which comes up when you select word and it shows all user info as product registered to and all that). I then tried to open other Office application like excel and outlook, they come out just fine. What could be the issue for Word not coming up ?
