Word 2000 and XP closes by itself

Hi everybody i've come across the following problem with word 2000 and a friend of mine with word XP, when you start up word if you leave it alone nothing happens, if you open a document or create a new one it just closes down by itself without any kind of warning, it has happened with powerpoint XP too, now when it happened to me with office 2000 i upgraded to XP and the problem was resolved on it's own, but my friend now has it with the XP version and we tried everything we could think off plus a couple of suggestions found here in this forum:
Installing service packs
Running antivirus with the latest definitions
uninstalling and reinstalling
running it: winword.exe /a

but so far nothing has worked, has this happened to anyone else????

I suspect you're a new victim of the latest Virus. Check your anti-virus site to clean up your PC and download as well the patch from Microsoft to stop any new occurances.

I've already installed the latest patches (including the ones for the Blaster worm) and i'm using norton systemworks 2003 with the latest definitions.
