I've successfully installed Via Voice and started setting up and discovered that I have a compatability problem with the Via Voice templates installed in the Office Startup folder. Word 2000 won't even open with them there. So, I removed them from the startup folder. Now Word is fine, but I can't use Via Voice with the wordprocessor. I've checked ScanSoft's knowledge base as well as Microsoft and can't find a solution. The version I'm using, Via Voice USB Pro 10, is supposed to be fully compatable with my OS (Win2k) and my Office suite (2000). Is there a way to solve this problem so I can use ViaVoice with Word? It would appear from the lack of reference to this probem elsewhere that the rest of the Via Voice users have found a satisfactory solution.

Hi Puck1987:

Hope you're still monitoring this post of yours. You must be disappointed not to have even a single respondant, :(

I'm afraid I cannot contribute either but wanted you to know that I had used viavoice a few years ago (2), and had problems that went unresolved. I finally discarded the program (Via Voice Gold), and planned to look at it again a few years later to see if things had improved.

I need it now more than ever because my disability (MS) is progressing and makinmg typing harder and harder.

I hope you have found a resolution to your very basic question by now. That's got to be the first gol to be able to use the program to dictate messages in word!

I have resolved the conflict. The indication came when I got an error message and Word generated a log and shut down. I can't recall the error message, but the MS knowledge base indicated that it is a known problem when ViaVoice installs its global templates in the startup folder. In any event, my problem stemmed from a conflict between the ViaVoice templates and the templates installed by the version of Quickoffice I use for my PDA, all in the Office startup file. I have put the ViaVoice templates in another folder and activate them when I need them directly from Word after disabling the Quickoffice stuff. Since I can't see a time when I will be using ViaVoice to work on docs I create on my PDA and load into Word via hotsync, this seems like a workable solution. As for ViaVoice USB Pro 10.0 as a utility, I'm impressed with it. It takes time and patience to learn how to use it and train it to your voice, prononciations, etc., but so far, I think it's going to be worth the investment. I got it to cut down on the amount of typing I do as a result of reptitive motion stress in my neck and shouders.
