I have a computer that I want to do a "clean install" of XP on but I can’t get it to boot from a cd ? I have:

1. tried several cd’s (XP,Win98 etc.)
2. checked the BIOS setting (CDROM, A:,C:)
3. tried another cdrom Drive
4. updated the BIOS software

The computer works fine but still will not let me boot from a cd !
Once the computer is booted up into Win'98 normally,I can put the XP or Windows ‘98 cd in and it will start the install process like normal. Is there any setting that I may have missed which could cause this problem ???

Thanks-

Some machines have a key such as "Esc" or one of the "F" keys that give you an option to choose a media to boot from if struck at Bootup. Maybe your machine has such an option, some older machines may not (see any manual or specifications).

When you make the changes in the Bios, have they reverted next time you go to the Bios?

Have you a Floppy drive that boots?

Thanks for the reply, linney. I overlooked the setting in the BIOS for Secondary Master. It was set to "None" !!! DUH !!! Everything is fine now.
