Hello all,

I have been having trouble recently with a previously-working install of Nero 6.x going wonky on me...it started w/ DVD Shrink suddenly not being able to burn. I open Nero, it takes f-o-r-e-v-e-r to open, select Next, window minimizes to system tray, that's it. I un/re-installed Nero, nada. After next uninstallation I deleted the Ahead folder in Program Files as well as the Ahead registry keys folder. I have several copies, I reinstalled with different media, Nero OEM 6.3.1.26 ver. Same behavior. Any ideas?

UPDATE: d/l & installed demo of Nero 7.x, same results. PC is a new build E6600 Asus P5WDH-Deluxe. 2GB RAM, single Raptor for OS & Apps, 2x320GB 7200.10 RAID 1 storage, Raptor is on JMicron SATA and RAID 1 is on Intel ICH7. All updates & patches installed. Everything else is A-OK, just this flippin' Nero. Event log is clean.

I had huge problems with Nero, Ghost with IE7, took IE7 it down and then my nero, ghost started to work....

The best way to thank someone who helps you is give them a star.

DanielTeixeira,

Thanks for your reply. That usual suspect has already been eliminated, as IE7 has NEVER been downloaded/installed to the new build. Only recent action was to install Acronis TrueImage.

Dillinger99,

Yes, I have (2) set up as IDE primary & secondary. They are both fully working, as DVDdecrypter loads the files to my HDD.

Nero opens, click "Next", the screen flickers and it is gone. Freezes the PC for a few minutes. Upon shutdown, Nero Smart Start and other Nero processes come up with the "End Now" dialog.

Can you check out how it runs if you login as any other user in Normal Mode?

If it is a profile problem then this may help.

To get further information about the error look in your Event viewer.

Look in the System or Application folder. You can get to the Event Viewer via right click My Computer icon and select Manage.

Any errors logged in the Event Viewer can be expanded by double clicking on the error line.

Take any event error I.D. number and search for it on these sites.

If the error occurred after installing a device driver or application, try using Safe Mode and removing the driver or program.

To check your RAM.

To check your Hard Drive.

Try running ChkDsk to check your drive for errors. Right click your Drive icon/ Properties/ Tools/ Error Checking.

The drive manufacturer will have free diagnostic software to check your drive for problems.

You can also load the Recovery Console and run ChkDsk /r to check for problems.

Removing adware & spyware

Will check your computer for spyware and adware.

See if you have any services that are flagging as "Starting" but not actually running.

Some general things to try.

See if System Restore will get you back to a restore point before your problem with Windows.

Run the System File Checker program from the Run Box by typing.....Sfc /Scannow in it and have your XP CD handy.

If they don't work you could try repairing windows itself by running it over itself. You will lose all your windows updates but your files will be untouched.

Created several new users, same same, brand-new build, not used enough for spyware, AV was the first app in and not connected to Web until AV update. Brand new drives, brand new array, checked all disks before/since build. The only new software/hardware installed since Nero was known working was Acronis, Event Viewer is squeaky clean except for Application Hang, typical MS error description/resolution.

At this point I think I will just try a repair install.

Tony

Hopefully a repair install will fix it for you.

I thought you might like to read this article, I have see it fix several CD and DVD burning problems, or drives missing problems. The Reg Fix talks about Upper and Lower Filters which get messed up. Whether it relates to your problem I don't honestly know.

CD-ROM Access Is Missing and Messages Cite Error Code 31, Code 32, Code 19, or Code 39 After You Remove Easy CD Creator in Windows XP

linney,

I appreciate your persistence. Neither of the above links pertain to me. Repair install went OK, I went to uninstall Nero and was prompted that filed were deleted and I needed to reinstall, then I get a MS installer issue,

I tried to uninstall Acronis and got the message : "Error #1610 the configuration data for this program is corrupt." Contact your support personnel" Acronis would also not let me re-install.

I had a revelation...I need to run WU to ge the system back to the state it was in when the apps were installed. Let's see how that goes.

Tony

Let's see how that goes.

Poorly. Clean installing now. Oh well. Still a Ghost fan! Thanks for your assistance all.

Tony

UPDATE:

The error was caused by the most basic of Windows conflicts, an IRQ conflict between the two drives.

No upper/lower filters, no bad drivers, etc., etc., etc.

Just shows to go ya always start with the basics...apparently Acronis install was just a coincidence.

Thanks to all.

Tony

Tony,

Interesting problem. Recently we had an issue here wherein Nero was installed and working beautifully. iTunes was then installed, and it would never allow the burning of an audio or mp3 cd. Seems that Nero's InCD (i think its called) service was conflicting with iTunes; disabled that service (errr ... stopped and change type to manual) and iTunes behaves as expected.
