I have lots of moies from holidays and they have sudenly stopped working.

I have reciently upgraded to xp pro and I have wmp9.

everything was going fine with this combo but now none of them will play. All I get is;

Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The file is either corrupt or the Player does not support the format you are trying to play.

I have these on the hdd, a removable hdd and cd. It is the same with all of them. I have difficulty in believing all of these have suddenly corrupted at the same time.

I have tried re-installing wmp but that didn't work.

any ideas welcomed.

I have had a look through and tried some of the fixes but still the same.

There is no error code which is very anoying.

I have had a good look round the net especialy the microsoft site but to no avail.

Rather than a series of batch files, write a batch/script to allow selection of the database task.

Windows WHS offers a free utility to encrypt the end result, so that no details are recognizable.

See Rob's site for easy linking:
Not only would a menu approach look cleaner than a bunch of batch files, you have Environmental Variables available to you: e.g.

if %username%="Dave" goto ....

You have available as well all Group assignments, Domain information etc. to implement a specific per-user or per-group or both filtering of access.

See Rob's site for details and links.

bcastner I would love to put in an error code but there isn't any code given.

That is the realy annoying part.

oh well back to looking for an answer. :(

Manic,

My bad, I wrote a response for a different question and unfortunately posted it here. And likely poster my response to you there.

In any case, here is what I would like you to consider:

1. Defrag and chkdsk your hard drive. It sounds as if Windows is correctly reporting a problem. I strongly recommend using the Web site of your hard disk manufacturer and download their diagnostic program. It will create a boot diskette to use when you restart your system. Select any diagnostic routine other than one that does "low-level" format, or suggests the test is destructive of your disk contents.

2. Codecs are a problem. Use Control Panel, Add/Remve programs, and remove all codec bundles you may have installed. Nimo comes first to mind. Then look here for a particular codec:

it is most files

avi, mpeg, asf ..... and the rest.

it isn't all of them I have found 1 or 2 that work but this adds further confusion to the situation.

thanks for the links but I have looked through most of them. I will have a look at the ones that I haven't.

Oh well. Bloody Microsoft!!!!!
