Hi all, I have a wireless pc card on Windows 2000 Pro. It needs a configuration utility to work. I thought i saw where someone made a patch that will make win 2000 act like XP so no utility is needed. Can anyone help with this?

If you must have wireless ont he server then load the utilitiy. It is not worth the risk of compromising the system stability or security by installing a third party hack to emulate Windows XP.

I hope you find this post helpful.

I do not know what happened. I submitted this in the 2000 Pro thread, and it ended up here. the OS is 2000 Pro. Thanks for your response.

Windows 2000 SP4 added a new service called 'Wireless Configuration'. This adds 802.1x to Windows 2000 with support for PEAP, EAP-TLS and MD5-Challenge. This is a subset of what Windows XP has and doesn't allow 'profiles' for each Wireless network.
By default the service is set to Manual and must be either started manually or set to Automatic startup (Services, Wireless Configuratio). When it is started your network adapter properties has an extra Tab called 'Authentication'. From here you can enable 802.1x and select the EAP Type.
