Hi all,

I am new to this forum (as a member that is) I have been using this forum as a full nortel training guide with bells on. Now on to my question.

I am in the head office of a company and we use a CS 1000 with Digital and IP telephones. We have a VPN Connection to all our stores so we can just set up an IP set and then plug it in store side and it works a treat. What we want in stores is a cordless phone, we need something that goes over ethernet and uses an IP licence (an example would be a 2004i with a cordless handset (if there was one)).
We looked at the WLAN Phone solutions but that would require a 2245 which is an expensive bit of kit for 250 stores, even if we centralised it we would still have to have a wireless access point in all stores which we don't really want.
The only light at the end of the tunnel was the Aastra 480i CT which would be perfect if it is compatible with our phone switch, we do not need a feature rich phone it needs to be able to make and receive calls, conference and transfer.

So basically has anyone ever got one working on a CS1000 and secondly is there another solution that I have completely overlooked in my inexperience.

Any help on this subject would be much appreciated.

Just chatted with the IT guys here and they say there is no problem setting the the PC you install the I2050 softphone software on so that only an administrator or some special user is the only one that can shut the software down after they start it. They said you IT dept would know exactly how to set it up in just a few minutes.

The ALGO box comes with a USB bable to plug into your PC, a modular phone cord and a power supply. Here in the US it would be a 115 volt unit but I'm pretty sure they would have a 220V unit for international and maybe the pwr supply is universal 110-220v never really looked and don't have one close here. You will need the RJ-11 to BT adapter though. I got burned on that deal the first time I had to connect a FAX machine that came from the UK. As for training, courses or information on SIP/H323 I'm not sure other than to search the web. Keep in mind the they are not the same. H323 was the original Nortel version of what is now the standardized SIP interconnection. I believe that if you are running software 3.0 or earlier you only have H323 capability. Rel 4.5 will do either. Anyhow with the ALGO you really don't have to worry about this. All of this is predicated on the assumption that you do have network connectivity to all of you sites currently. You also need to be aware of network bandwidth, but from your first post I'd guess that these are not issues as you said you can connect regular stand alone IP sets at the sites. I am currently in Kyrgyzstan working, but if you can't find a one of the i2050 software disks let me know and I'll give you a link so you can down load it. There are no keycodes, passwords etc for it.

Oh power. The ones I've installed were connected to USB hubs. The power was actually being connected to the hub not the 4900. Sorry about the confusion. Just be sure the usb port on the PC will support a 500ma load. That's why we used the powered external hub.

Could i have a link to the softphone download please
?

I just tested this to be sure you could down load the software a "guest" and it worked fine. The file is about 32.4mb. " this will take you to Nortel's Tech Support Page. Find the documentation section and select "other". Now go to the alphabetical section and select "I". You will now get the Products page. Find the "IP softphone 2050" and select it. We are getting there! Under IP softphone Software select "Release 5". Next screen find Software items and select "IP softphone 2050 Rel 3.0". Finally find software down loads and select "IP softphone 2050 V3 Client". This is the .exe file you need. I suggest you save it to a temp file and the burn it to a Disk. To install the softare on the PC just run the .exe file. If you don't have the NTP 553-3001-368 you might also want to download it from IP softphone page. It's located under Documentation sub section Configuration. approx 5.9mb. It has al the information on how to configure the IP phones.

BE WARNED. The 2050v3 requires a separate licence installed on a "licence server" (also downloaded from the same location) to operate. The 2050v3 will run for up to 30 days without being able to retrieve this licence and then will STOP working.

We have installed quite a few of these and have only ever just used the client software and have never had one shutdown because of a license issue. We did have one once where the customer did not have enough ip licenses on their system. Normally we just installed the ip2050 software that comes with the ip software package. If there is a difference in the downloadable version and the one on the actual cdrom I am not aware of it. Generally most customers don't want the softphone but a few do.

Thanks again guys, I think we are going with the Softphone solution it looks like the best option with it saving on switches in stores, buying new phones, major adapters and training.
