Hmm... must be wireless NIC day. :-)

Anyway, I have a Dell laptop with a built-in wireless NIC (TrueMoble 1150 Mini PCI) and I have the latest drivers installed. The problem is the wireless client recieves a signal but for some reason the NIC stays disconnected. I haven't seen any logs that would give me hints. I have disabled then re-enabled and still the same problem. I am almost sure I have it set up right for the network I am hooking up to, but I just can't get it to work! I will be verifing that tomorrow with the helpdesk at school.

My assumption is that with the client and drivers installed properly, everything should work. I should point out that it worked fine under XP (took it off due to stability problems, but that is another ball of wax).

Does anyone have any ideas? Mike Wills

Yeah, today was wireless day. And I took it off XP because of XP networking demands , tried 98 but no drivers from Toshiba, so went to 2K.
Separate drivers for 2K?
Are you trying to link to a WAP or going peer/peer infrastructure. Ed Fair

I believe it would be connecting to a WAP. This is at a local college that I am trying to connect to. As far as I can tell it is wide open for connecting. Mike Wills

The stuff I've worked with requires configuration for the type of network. Particularly the parameter SSID which identifies what WAP it attaches to.
Perhaps XP was smart enough to poll thru the choices to attach.
Any indicator in the taskbar to show the connection. Mine have indicated red when unattached and clicking on the icon leads to the configuration. Ed Fair

Hmmm... I will have to stop by schools help desk then.... with my tail between my legs. :-(

Oh well, its new technology that I don't fully understand yet. Mike Wills

And I forgot the one other thing. In the install of XP networking I got a message that any other machines on the network needed to have XP networking installed on them, and did I want to make a network install disk that I could use to install it.
So I made the assumption that if XP can't see 95/98/2000 then they probably can't see XP. And you might end up with the same problem after you get the card communicating.
That was the alarm bell that caused me to try to install 98 on the laptop. 98 went on fine but I was limited to 640x480 and 16 colors and no sound. While 98 was loading I visited Toshiba to find that they support 2K ans XP only on this box. So I went raw 2K, got the wireless working, transferred across the drivers, then loaded them.
This is a mixed shop, 95, 98, 2K, Linux, SCO. And I'm not about to put an alien network on anything as long as I can get spare parts and operating systems.
Don't know if you'll have the range of options for connection that I did. I had 3 types of connection and probably every WAP ever built. Since I have only linksys WAPs I didn't get to experiment. Ed Fair

UPDATE...

I stopped at the help desk and thier "educated guess" is that I had the wrong drivers. Mike Wills
