I have a computer thats a few years old, and a friend took off windows 98 and put millenium in. Well now it doesn't work at all. When i turn it on it says "CPU is unworkable or has been changed. Please uncheck - CPU SOFT MENU" I tryed pushing F1 and it goes to the desktop but no icons, start menu, or anything comes up, just an error that says "Explorer has caused an error in BROWSEUI.DLL". This error comes up in safe mode and the other modes as well. I just want to get Millenium out of my computer so i can put Windows 98 back in. If anyone can tell me how to do this that would be great! Thanks a lot..

By the way I do not have any ME start up disks or any disks... only 98 ones...

Just book up from a windows 98 floppy disc or cdrom. If booting from floppy then it loads in dos type this. By the way make sure you have all drivers and cds you need before doing this. Type format C: , it will then ask are you sure, press Y and hit enter and it will start formatting your hard drive. This will completely wipe out your hard drive nothing will be left on it. Now If your booting from win98 cd disc just follow its instructions and it will tell you how you go about and be sure to choose a clean install.

When I start up my computer with the Windows 98 start up floppy disk in, I still have to push F1 for it to do anything.. then it gives three options:
1. Start Computer with CD-Rom Support
2. Start Computer without CD-Rom Support
3. View the Help File

The first one does a bunch of stuff then ends up just giving me this:
A:\
I tryed putting C: in there then it gives me
C:\
Is there something else I can put in there????
The second one just gives me a bunch of options to push Y/N to and i dont know what the heck it means... so any help from here would be appreciated! thanks...

Start from cdrom support.
when you load the disc up switch to c:. there is where you want. Now under c: type the format c: and hit enter. It will say " all non removable data will be erased, are you sure you want to continue". Tell it y and hit enter. It will start formatting your drive. After its finished formatting insert your windows 98 cdrom disc for intallation and restart the computer. If its an actual 98 boot disc you can format using it instead of the floppy way. But once you have booted from the cd just follow its intrstuctions.

Thanks a lot! Its in the process of removing all the data, thanks again!!!

No problem thats what this forums here for. All of us run into problems at one point or another.

Bad News- Just ran into another problem!!:(
Im pretty sure ME is gone, but i have two CD ROM Windows 98 disks, one is a start up one, the other one is just Windows 98, but whenever i start the computer with either of them in it says 'Invalid system disk, replace the disk, then press any key' the only way this works is if the floppy start up disk is in, but I don't know what to do because everything just ends up going to that A:/ again and i dont know what to put... sorry if you could help me again that would be great!

Alright well hopefully one of those is an actual microsof windows 98 disc. If there a manufactured one from another brand computer it wont work. anyways load from floppy and load like before. when you get loaded to a: prompt, have the cd in the drive and type D:setup and hit enter
that should bring you up in the setup.
