i have been running winzip forever and just lately when I download a file it seems to want to open it in notepad when it it is an .exe when I download it, I have windows 98 on my laptop and if I put it on a disk it opens it ok, I uninstalled and reinstalled, still the same, I compaired the winzip settings but they are the same I can only think it is the xp settings.Thank you in advance for any help I can get..........drummond

Try checking the setting for Zip files in Folder Options/ File Types/ Zip. Have a look at what it says under the "Change" button and also the "Advanced" button.

Hope you don't have a registry problem that has associated .exe files with Note Pad.

Do other .exes open with Note Pad?

Try WinRAR. It's just as easy to use and has many more file formats.
