Hello all
I have this sort of problem. I boot up the system and after a few seconds the whole system freezes. Then is a hw reset neccesary. After boot, the same problem.. reset again...after bootup... after some seconds, freeeeeeze.. then reset... boot.. and the PC runs perfectly even when the machine runs for 2 days without shutdown.
I'm kinda depressed from this ...
Did someone had this problem ? Some ideas ?
Tnx a lot

since when has this been happening? have you added any new software or hardware after which this started? have you tried system restore under system tools in accessories?
try unplugging all external components except for the monitor, mouse and keyboard and restarting to see if this happens. check and see if this happens in safe mode. if it does not happen in safe mode, try clearing startup environment by clicking Start then run and typing in MSCONFIG. Go to Startup Tab at the top and then click on disable all. see if this helps so you can narrow down the problem.

Is your Bios updated?

Any information as to details of machine you can supply would help.

Is it freezing before or after login?

To get further information about the error look in your Event viewer.

Look in the System or Application folder. You can get to the Event Viewer via right click My Computer icon and select Manage.

Any errors logged in the Event Viewer can be expanded by double clicking on the error line.

Take any event error I.D. number and search for it on this site.

Try running ChkDsk to check your drive for errors. Right click your Drive icon/ Properties/ Tools/ Error Checking.

Run the System File Checker program from the Run Box by typing.....Sfc /Scannow in it and have your XP CD handy.

If they don't work you could try repairing windows itself by running it over itself. You will lose all your windows updates but your files will be untouched.

Thank you for your answers.
I'll try some of those suggestions.
Maybe a complet reinstall of xp would be good. Or i try to install a different OS on an other partition and i'll see what will happend.

Linney... this freeze thing happens after login.. after mmm 2 minutes of work. Doensn't matter working with what. A Game, or a Music SW.
Anyway i'm afraid it is a problem with the RAM ;(
