I have been having an issue with a Merlin Magix Rel 3.0. When I try to connect using Winspm R9.0 I get a message stating that Quick Access will not function until I resolve the issue with ATL boards in slots 6-17. The problem is I have a single carrier system with an 800 GS/LS-Id, 412TDL, 2 ETR modules and a Merlin messaging R2.5. There are no other modules or carriers.

Any suggestions and/or solutions?

My thought is the system may have had boards in those slots before, (Perhasp this is a USED Processor) - OR - those are "PHANTOM" boards used for something.

I suggest, in standard SPM, print the System Set up and see if it "THINKS" there are boards there.

Now, if it does, you nned to insure that none of the ports associated with those "PHANTOMS" are being used in coverage or anything.

Once you know you will do no harm, a simple BOARD RENUMBER should erase them for you.

You could also, from an operator console, go into maintenance, system, inventory and scroll through to see if the system thinks there are any boards after slot 5. If not, you may have defective WinSPM software. I had not heard of release 9.01 - just 9.0 Where did you get WinSPM? You might want to reinstall it or go to the Avaya website and download the 4.0 to 5.0 upgrade. Uninstall your current version. Install the 4.0 to 5.0 upgrade. Go back to avaya.com and download and install the WinSPM patches for R5.0 to 6.0, 6.0 to 7.0, 7.- to 8.0 and finally 8.0 to 9.0 - which will give you a clean, new version of the software. Then, see if you still have the same problem.

Thanks guys, I am using Winspm 9.0 , I forgot the punctution after 9.0.

I have also checked the inventory from the main console and it shows slots 9-17 as empty. The are no phantoms associated . I haven't tried a board renumber as the customer is sensitive about down time and they don't want to stay after hours to give me a chance to try it. It just so happens that they need to expand the system so when I install the new carrier and boards, I'll do the board renumber then.

What does the inventory show for slots 6,7,and 8??

OOPS, slots 6-17 are empty, nothing shows in inventory

Then, I would consider getting a new copy of WinSPM 9.0 - as suggested above. You may have some corruption in the software version you have - unless you have used it with other systems - and not had a problem. The board renumber may or may not fix the connection problem you are having.

I have run in to this issue with WinSPM 9.0 on a Legend r6 processor. WinSPM was showing the system as having an 008 OPT in slot 7 that wasn't there. I installed a fresh copy of WinSPM and did a board renumber just for kicks and the phantom board still appeared sporadically.
I reverted to an older version of WinSPM on my lap top an the phantom card disappeared So I am guessing this might be an issue with 9.0. I have had this happen on three different systems using version 9.0

My copy of Winspm works with the other 80 odd customers I deal with. Also I'm not the only tech whose had this problem at this site.

The problem is usually stray translations in the processor memory, occuring during an upgrade. The solution isn't sweet. You need to back-up the current translations to flashcard and PC just to be safe. Then do a system erase TWICE!(per Avaya). Do a board renumber, again just to be safe. Now you can do a system restore from the flashcard and you should be good to go. Been there done that.

40 years in the business and counting.

I have had an old tech, and an old Lucent tech support guy tell me to back up, default, default, upgrade, default, default, with every system when upgrading. Time consuming, but he said it can stop many elusive problems down the road. Sounds like maybe a default might help.
Before installing new, or used I default system, and VM tewice before programming. It can't hurt.

You do not always get what you pay for, but you never get what you do not pay for.

Thanks guys,
I was finally able to return to the jobsite and perform a board renumber as many of you suggested. After the board renumber I connected no problem and now am able to use both Quick Access and standard SPM

Quick Access - depending on the version of the processor you have - is the ability to program in GUI mode using WinSPM versus standard SPM mode. You cannot do everything you can in standard SPM mode - but many tasks, especially labelling - are much quicker and easier.
